The number of sessions varies greatly. Short term therapy for simpler issues can last just a few sessions, while more complex situations require longer time frames. Some may continue with sessions for many months, but this depends on the nature of the problem, on the individual, and on the specific therapeutic goal you decided to set. One of the early goals in therapy is to define what you want to achieve in therapy. Once we achieve those goals, then therapy is finished and it is time to celebrate your success!
Depending on the policies of your insurance carrier, you may be able to get reimbursed by your insurance for our sessions by submitting a superbill (which is just a detailed bill for therapeutic services) that my office can provide.
I do not accept direct payment from insurance , therefore I would be considered an out of network provider.
Yes, I am happy to schedule a 15-minute free consultation with new clients before they make the first appointment.
The consult provides an opportunity to discuss the specifics of your situation, to see if it seems like we are a good therapeutic match, and it is also a good time to ask questions or discuss concerns about the therapeutic process without any expense or commitment
The first session (sometimes called the intake session) is a little longer than the following ones - we complete the legal formalities such as the consent and history forms and this is also the time when we get to know one another and begin developing our working relationship. During this session we will unpack some of the concerns or issues that brought you to counseling and we will discuss how I can help.
Because counseling therapy is a very personal experience, it is important to choose a therapist who you feel comfortable with. You shouldn't expect a perfect match like a good friend, but it is important that you can work well with your therapist and that you can have a comfortable professional relationship with him or her. Trust your gut and feel free to discuss this in the first session. It is perfectly OK to decide that the chemistry is not right and explore other options - this is part of a healthy therapeutic experience.
